I’m was in awe of the pure energy I felt from a boxer who couldn’t help itself from her desires for human affection. I walked  for the first time into a new friends front yard and met with a muscular brown bodied black faced bubbly, strong boxer who jumped on my clean recently pressed white pants.

When the first jump came I was startled at the strength of the dog, then the second lunge which almost knocked me over. The owners could not control their dog and I thought I was a goner but her tail was wagging and I knew then she was lonely and needed affection. But she was like a child out of control. I was frightened and needed inner guidance. I asked God to help me accept the vulnerability and to show me what to do. Sure enough the message came “trust in giving love.” Then I stood still and took a few deep breaths and stroked her head, body, she kept jumping on me and the more  the owners screamed “get down” the more she jumped. I kneeled down and  hugged her, staying in that position for a few minutes. Thank goodness I started taking classes in squats because my thighs were strong enough to manage that position. She calmed down.  I stood up and thought everything good or bad happens to help us grow. Then her owners told me she was alone every day and needed human affection. After she received her dose she became a content  four legged lady and walked away.

I suggested to the owners to get their dog into some kind of social interactive program with other dogs. They did the polite “yes” nod. But I knew they were not going to change their ways. Then I looked at my muddy paw imprinted pants and they begged to wash them.

“No, it’s the new look. Paw on white.”

“We are so sorry!”

“It’s not your problem.” I said.  I had walked into their front yard. Yes they did invite me and no I didn’t know they had a jumping bean boxer but being upset did nothing to help me .

“Are you hungry?” They asked.

“Starved.” I replied. So I followed them into their living room and they poured me a glass of red wine. I stood holding the glass waiting to see if the boxer would walk over.

“Welcome to our home” They announced. The boxer curled in the corner on the carpet and fell into a deep sleep.

“Thank-you for inviting me.” I sipped not one sip but a few in a row. “Nice wine.” I said.
